What is Color Correction? This question has so many answers that let’s just say that it allows you to change the color of an object to fit in better with the composition being worked on. Here is an example. I did a shoot for a client. When we watched the footage, we noticed that the wall of the room we were in was the same color as the actor’s shirt. We had two choices, one to re shoot and two to change a color. Since the actor was moving in the shot, I suggested that we change the color of the wall. This fix took around five minutes . When I finished the color correction, no one could tell that we had changed the color of the wall. This is just one fix solution. I can fix a segment or the color for an entire film.
A more Formal way of describing the process is that
Color correction (or grading) is the process of making adjustments to the color and contrast of the shots in your program in order to:
- Fix problem clips that may be too bright or too dark, or that have improper color
- Even out the color and contrast of each of the shots in a scene so they all look as if they occur in the same place at the same time
- Bring attention to specific elements in the frame
- Make creative adjustments to stylize the appearance of the images
